Search and AI answers

Generative engine optimisation for brands that need to be quoted.

A2FF Digital is an AI agency in Hong Kong. Our generative engine optimisation (GEO) writes and structures your content for search and the answers AI engines generate. When your buyer asks instead of searching, Google’s AI answer still uses what Search finds. GEO gives it content worth citing.

What it is

What is generative engine optimisation?

GEO stands for generative engine optimisation. It means getting AI engines such as Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to link your page or name your brand. SEO helps Search find and list pages, while GEO works on whether an answer links the page or names the brand.

For that to happen the engine has to know who you are, be able to read what you publish, and find something in it worth quoting. Because GEO works on the same pages as SEO, A2FF Digital runs the two as one discipline.

The shift

Ranking no longer stands for everything

Your buyer may read an AI answer before reaching your site, and some searches end there without a visit. Answer the buyer’s specific question plainly to give your page a chance of appearing.

Search, until now

Being found

Keywords, ranking, clicks
Search, now

Being quoted

It has to know you before it can name you
About 60% of searches end without a visit to another site

When Google shows an AI summary, fewer people click at all. Pew Research Center found that people clicked a result in only 8% of visits with a summary. Without one, they clicked in 15% of visits.

A top ranking is no guarantee of a place in the answer. Researchers at Ruhr University Bochum and the Max Planck Institute studied US searches from 2025. On average, 53% of the websites Google's AI Overviews consulted were outside Google's top 10 results for the same search. Of the websites consulted, 27% were outside the top 100 (published at ACL 2026).

What decides it

Three things decide whether an engine names you

Most brands are weaker on one of these three than on the other two, and that one tends to decide the answer. The first round shows which is weakest, so we fix that first.

BrandWhen this is weak, the engine hedges or names a business with a similar name in another market. Engines draw on what other sites say about you as well as your own site. We give you one account of who you are and where, then make the places that describe you agree on it.

ContentWhen this is weak, you may rank, but the answer still quotes a competitor or a directory. We answer each of your buyers’ questions directly beneath it, in a sentence an engine can lift whole.
+
TechnicalWhen this is weak, the software that writes answers may never get in or may find nothing worth quoting. We clear what is shutting it out, then confirm that it got in.

Platform coverage

One strategy, every place an answer gets written

Each engine picks its sources in its own way, but they all read the same pages on your site. We fix those pages once through AI search optimisation, then check the result on each engine we measure.

Measured every round

Every engagement covers the engines where most of your buyers now ask and where Google puts an answer above its own results.

  • ChatGPT Trusted sources, and a clear account of who you are
  • Gemini Entity links across Google’s own surfaces
  • Google AI Overviews Pages Google Search already finds, answering the question plainly
Added to your set on request

Which engines we add depends on where your buyers ask. A Chinese-language market adds DeepSeek, a Microsoft estate adds Copilot, and a category argued about on X adds Grok.

  • Perplexity Cites its sources in the answer, sentence by sentence
  • Copilot Structured data, and a Microsoft index of its own
  • Claude Sources it can read in full and attribute cleanly
  • DeepSeek Reach into Chinese-language answers
  • Grok What is being said on X, folded into the answer
SEO and GEO

Is GEO replacing SEO?

Partly. GEO is replacing the old habit of choosing keywords and chasing rankings. Your page still needs to be found. The aim is to appear in the answer, which can link your page as a source or name your brand. A name mention also depends on what others say about you. Well-known brands can be named without their own sites ranking highly. If your name is less familiar, keep your page findable and your business listings readable. SEO and GEO work on the same pages, so A2FF runs them together.
